Our Clergy
Reverend Andrew Johnson
Rev. Andrew Johnson joined St. John’s in May 2020 as assistant curate, where he was ordained into the priesthood in 2021 and named Priest-in-Charge in 2025. He received his Bachelor of Humanities studying the “Great Books” at Carleton University in 2008. He went on to receive his Master’s degree in Political Science (also from Carleton) in 2011. Before entering into seminary at Wycliffe College in 2015, Andrew worked as a professional book nerd in the Canadian publishing industry. While at seminary, he served as a student intern at St. Matthew’s Riverdale, as a lay pastoral associate at Grace Church on-the-hill, and then as a postulant at All Saints Community Church. He also gained pastoral experience working with the Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care and the St. John’s Rehab Centre. Andrew graduated Wycliffe College with his Master of Divinity in 2019.
Andrew grew up in Ottawa and moved to Toronto in 2012. In 2017, he married his wife Elise and they welcomed their daughter Beatrice into the world in 2020, and their son Clive in 2023. In his spare time, Andrew maintains his book nerdiness by reading books of theology, philosophy and history, and also loves watching movies and breaking bread with friends and family. Andrew’s passions in ministry are for preaching, teaching, counselling and spiritual formation. He is proud to serve the Willowdale community and the people of St. John’s.
Associate Priest (副牧師)
Reverend Carol Shih (施琼薇牧師)
The Rev. Carol Shih joined St. John’s as Associate Priest on August 1, 2025. Originally from Hong Kong, Carol came to Toronto in January 2021 to pursue theological training and ministry, becoming the first bursary recipient of the Rita Lee Chui Endowment Fund. She earned a Master of Christian Studies in Hong Kong and a Master of Divinity from Wycliffe College in 2023. She was ordained to the diaconate that year and the priesthood in 2024.
Before arriving at St. John’s, Carol served her curacy at St. Timothy’s, North York, and ministered at several Toronto-area churches, including St. Elizabeth, St. Paul’s L’Amoreaux, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields, where she was the Children’s and Youth Pastoral Associate. In Hong Kong, Carol had a career in marketing, administration, church policy advocacy and theological education, while actively serving in children’s, youth, family, and seeker ministries.
Carol’s ministry focuses include discipleship, pastoral care, spiritual companionship, ESL outreach, and healing and reconciliation. She believes that prayer and attentive listening—to God, Scripture, and people—are vital in nurturing faith and community. If you or someone you know wants to talk about life or explore faith, Carol is always open to conversation.
Carol is newly married to the Rev. Matthew Waterman, who also serves in the Diocese of Toronto. Together they enjoy reading, cooking, outdoor activities, gardening, and sharing time with family and friends. She looks forward to seeing how God is at work in the Willowdale community through St. John’s.
